A total 109,000 violators have been recorded in Metro Manila during the resumed Enhanced Community Quarantine on August 6, expected to be either downgraded or maintained on August 22, National Police chief General Guillermo Eleazar told a forum Wednesday.

The PNP chief said an average of 9,000 daily violators were recorded in the region, where 13 million of the country’s 110 million population live.

A total of 312,000 violators have been recorded in National Capital Region Plus with a daily average of 26,000 violators. NCR Plus includes Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal.

At the same time, Eleazar directed the Cebu police to investigate a beach party in Camotes Island allegedly attended by some local politicians and other personalities last month.

“We will abide by the directive of our SILG (Secretary of the Interior and Local Government) Eduardo Año to investigate the said gathering which may have violated minimum public health safety standards and quarantine protocols and could have been a superspreader event,” Eleazar said in a statement.

Nationwide, the PNP said 507,000 violators have been recorded with a daily average of 43,000 violators.

Eleazar said 79 percent of the total violators nationwide were just warned, 13 percent were fined or cited, while 8 percent were brought to police stations for other offenses.

Eleazar ordered the Cebu police to “closely look into pieces of evidence” and coordinate with the concerned local government unit regarding the incident.

This came after the Department of the Interior and Local Government received information about the party, which took place last July 10, from an anonymous complainant.

Uploaded videos of the beach party showed the guests seemingly disregarding minimum public health safety standards and quarantine protocols.

Eleazar reminded the public to strictly observe minimum health protocols and avoid mass gatherings that may trigger superspreader events for the coronavirus disease 2019.
