The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority advised motorists and commuters to expect traffic adjustment along Elliptical Road in Quezon City beginning this week to give way for the ongoing Metro Railway Transit – Line 7 (MRT-7) Project road works.

“The MRT-7 Traffic Management Task Force and MMDA, in coordination with the Quezon City Local Government Unit, are advising the public of the traffic adjustments that will take place at Elliptical Road particularly at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and corner of North Avenue next week to give way to the on-going construction of the MRT-7 Project,” the MMDA stated in its advisory Saturday.

The three curved lanes going to North Avenue and Visayas Avenue will be transferred to inner lanes on Elliptical Road – Commonwealth Avenue on Tuesday (July 28), a day after the 5th State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Beginning Friday, July 31, vehicles will pass through curved lanes at Elliptical Road – North Avenue as the current construction fence at the side of Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) will be moved towards the middle lanes and the construction fence at the corner of North Avenue will be pushed back.

Motorists are advised to follow the yellow solid lane marking and avoid swerving to prevent accidents and reduce traffic slow down.

MRT-7 Task Force officials said the traffic adjustments would allow the contractor to complete the portion of the tunnel guideway going to and coming from the Quezon Memorial Circle Station, which is an underground station.

The portion of the tunnel guideway is targeted to finish in November this year. After which, the Elliptical Road is expected to return back to its original road condition.

As of June, the 22-kilometer Project was 58.95 percent complete.

The project involves the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the 23-km elevated railway line.

The MRT-7 line serves 14 stations from San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan to MRT-3 North Avenue in Quezon City.

The stations are: North Avenue, Quezon City Memorial Circle, University Avenue, Tandang Sora, Don Antonio, Batasan, Manggahan, Doña Carmen, Regalado, Mindanao Avenue, Quirino, Sacred Heart, Tala and San Jose del Monte.

Once the project is completed, the road component will divert northern provincial buses operation to San Jose Del Monte, thereby decongesting Epifanio de los Santos Avenue.
