Reflect on Christ’s passion, death, resurrection – PBBM

As the nation observes Holy Week from April 13 to 20, national leaders called on Filipinos to reflect on faith, compassion, and resilience, drawing inspiration from the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. encouraged Filipinos to pause their daily routines to contemplate the meaning of the season, which he described as a reminder of Christ’s “sacrifice and triumph.”

In a statement released on Palm Sunday, Mr. Marcos urged the public to reflect on “the Lord’s perfect example of compassion and self-giving,” emphasizing that Christ’s journey to Calvary was marked by hardship and obedience.

“Through His sacrifice, the gift of salvation came into our midst,” he said.

Mr. Marcos also highlighted Easter as a symbol of victory, affirming that “a loving God embraced humanity.” He expressed hope that the season would renew the strength and faith of the people, particularly in serving those on the margins of society.

“This is a time to become better persons, capable of understanding and charity,” he added. “May we have a meaningful and blessed celebration.”

Senate President Francis Escudero echoed similar sentiments, describing Easter as “a time of renewal and hope inspired by the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

“His triumph over death reminds us that, no matter the challenges we face, there is always an opportunity for transformation and growth,” Escudero said. “This season calls us to embrace the promise of light and victory after darkness.”

Escudero also emphasized the importance of unity and wise decision-making, especially with the upcoming elections next month.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez called on public servants to reflect on the core of their vocation: to serve with honesty, integrity, and compassion.

“For those of us in public service, Holy Week is a time to pause and return to the core of our calling,” Romualdez said. “It is a reminder to serve with sincerity, to lead with empathy, and to be more attentive to those who are quietly carrying burdens.”

He invited Filipinos to see their own struggles mirrored in Christ’s suffering and resurrection.

“In Christ’s story, we see our own. We know what it means to struggle, to endure loss, and to keep believing,” Romualdez said. “The Filipino spirit has always risen above hardship—with quiet courage, deep faith, and compassion for others.”

Romualdez concluded by wishing all Filipinos a peaceful and grace-filled Holy Week.

Holy Week this year includes Maundy Thursday (April 17) and Good Friday (April 18), both declared as national holidays.
