The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Monday that the combined impact of tropical cyclones ‘Nika,’ ‘Ofel,’ and ‘Pepito’ affected a total of 1,145,942 people or 295,576 families across several provinces.
It displaced at least 685,071 individuals, forcing them to seek temporary shelter elsewhere in many Luzon-based regions, including Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
According to the NDRRMC situational report as of 8:00 a.m., 446,177 of the displaced individuals are currently staying in evacuation centers while 238,894 are residing in other temporary locations.
Damage caused by the cyclones includes P469.8 million in public infrastructure and P8.6 million in agricultural losses. Additionally, 7,401 homes were partially damaged, and 437 were completely destroyed. A total of 34 roads and 24 bridges have been rendered impassable.
Eleven cities and municipalities were placed under a state of calamity. These include eight local government units from Cagayan Valley, two from CAR, and one from Central Luzon. Classes have been suspended in at least 690 cities and municipalities.
To assist affected families, the government provided at least P49.1 million worth of aid thus far.
In Daet, Camarines Norte, tragedy occurred when a 76-year-old man lost his life during the height of Super Typhoon ‘Pepito.’
He was fatally injured in a vehicular accident caused by downed internet cables along Bagabas Road, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
