Fashion designer and 69-year-old beauty queen Jocelyn Cubales is one of the 15 contestants for Miss Universe Philippines – Quezon City.
The Miss Universe Organization removed the age limit for aspiring candidates last year, allowing women over 28 years old to compete.
“Meet Jocelyn Cubales. At 69 years old, she believes that the younger generation can learn a lot from her life experiences, most especially grit. See her give light to the universe,” Miss Universe Philippines wrote on its Facebook page.
The coronation night for the Miss Universe Philippines-Quezon City crown is set on Feb. 5.
According to her husband and singer-actor Marc Cubales, Jocelyn was motivated to join the beauty “because I want to inspire other Filipino women to pursue their passions and achieve their dreams.”
If she wins the crown, Cubales is set to make history as the first-ever Miss Universe Philippines – Quezon City and the oldest contestant in the beauty pageant.
“I told her [to] follow what her heart tells. [S]he’s always been an inspiration. At age 69, we already have [a] handful of crowns and awards but she’s a person with a positive energy and advocacies that have been already proven and tested,” Marc said in a post on Facebook.
“Good luck, Joyce, make me proud, don’t mind the bashers, honestly they have not met you in person yet, plus I’m at your back, and the rest of our friends and family.”
“She’s a woman with honor and dignity who can represent our country well. Her good, honest, [and] compassionate heart makes her a real beauty queen to all of us,” he added.
Cubales is not new to the pageantry world as she was once a representative of South Asia in the Mrs. Universe 2017 pegeant.
She also has five beauty titles under her belt, namely Mrs. Philippines Germany 2000, Mrs. Philippines for Mrs. Asia International 2014, Mrs. Asia International 2014, Mrs. Asia International Global 2014, and Mrs. Ecotourism 2014.
Last year, Miss Guatemala Michelle Cohn made history at the Miss Universe 2023 pageant as the first mother to take part in the competition.
