Travelers can expect more expensive plane tickets in September after the Civil Aeronautics Board raised fuel surcharge rates after keeping these at Level 4 for three consecutive months.

The CAB said the fuel surcharge for both domestic and international flights will be adjusted to Level 6 next month amid higher jet fuel prices which now range from P36 to P39 per liter.

At Level 6, passengers will have to pay a fuel surcharge ranging from P185 to P665 for one-way domestic flights, and P610.37 to P4,538.40 for one-way international flights.

The P610.37 fuel surcharge will cover international flights to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, or Brunei.

For destinations more than 14,000 kilometers away from the Philippines, the P4,538.40 fuel surcharge will be applied.

The P185 surcharge will cover domestic flights for distances less than two kilometers, such as Cebu to Tagbilaran, while the P665 surcharge will apply for distances covering more than a thousand kilometers.

Airline representatives said they would adhere to the CAB advisory.

Cebu Pacific President Xander Lao said the airline remained “committed to providing accessible and affordable air travel to our passengers through our seat sales.”

“We encourage travelers to book their flights as early as possible to avail of low fares,” said Lao.

“We will adhere to the guidance from CAB and we thank our customers for their continued support for the flag carrier,” Philippine Airlines spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said.

AirAsia Communications and Public Affairs Head Steve Dailisan also encouraged travelers to take advantage of ongoing promotions.

From June to August, CAB retained the fuel surcharge at Level 4. Under this, surcharge rates ranged from P117 to P342 for domestic trips and P385.7 to P2,876.82 for international flights.
