A magnitude 6.2 earthquake rocked Davao Oriental on Friday at 6:12 p.m.

Of tectonic origin, the quake happened 92 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso town.

It had a depth a depth of 76 kilometers, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

Intensity 5 was felt in Mati City and intensity 2 in Bislig City.

The tremor was expected to cause aftershocks but will not cause damage, Phivolcs said.

“We haven’t seen any damage reports and with a quake as far from land as this, we don’t expect any damages,” said agency director Renato Solidum.

The quake won’t trigger tsunamis either, he added.

“Since this earthquake is in the ocean, not land, it’s not so strong, and we think because it’s deep, it won’t generate a tsunami,” Solidum said.
