ACT-Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio has asked Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio not to drag public school teachers in her issues with the Makabayan bloc.

“Mayor Sara, kung may problema ka sa Makabayan bloc, diretsuhin mo na kami, ‘wag mo nang idamay ang mga public school teacher ng Davao na tapat na naglilingkod sa inyong siyudad,” Tinio said in a text message.

Duterte-Carpio on Monday called for the expulsion of the Makabayan bloc from the House of Representatives for allegedly “lying” about her local government’s supposed failure to grant allowances to teachers.

The Davao chapter of ACT Teachers Party-list, a member of the Makabayan bloc, recently claimed that Duterte-Carpio’s turf was the only major city in the country that does not supplement the salaries of public school teachers with allowances.

The mayor said the Davao City government had been giving P2,000 worth of gift checks to every teaching and non-teaching employee of the Department of Education in Davao since December 2016.

Duterte-Carpio had called on Congress to expel the members of the Makabayan bloc even as she assailed the Davao chapter of ACT-Teachers party list for claiming that her city allegedly does not give local allowances to its teachers.

“Congress should expel the members of the Makabayan bloc. The Party-list system is the milking cow of terrorists,” she said in an Instagram post on Oct. 8.

But Tinio accused Duterte-Carpio of “harassment” when the mayor labeled the militant lawmakers as “liars” and “terrorists.”
