MALACAÑANG on Wednesday declared Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, both Mondays, special non-working holidays to let the people have a “full opportunity” to enjoy the holidays.

Acting Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra signed Proclamation 117 declaring the two dates as holidays on Tuesday.

Dec. 25, Christmas Day, and Jan. 1, New Year’s Day, both fall on a Sunday, while Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve both fall on a weekend.

The proclamation gives Filipino families longer weekends and allows employers to plan their work schedules.
