Consumers of Manila Electric Co. suffered  brownouts Tuesday night  as a result of “sudden plant outage.”

Meralco said that the plant outage occurred at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The power plants that went offline included  Sta. Rita,   San Lorenzo and San Gabriel natural gas plants and Quezon Power Philippines Ltd.

“As of now, we do not have an estimated time of restoration yet. All efforts will be exerted to restore power as soon as possible,” Meralco said.

System operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines, for its part, said that power restoration immediately started Tuesday night “while the cause (of the loss of power) is still being determined.”

“Yes, there was an ALD [automatic load dropping] due to insufficient power supply. Power, however, has been restored to the last affected areas around 850 pm,”   Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said.
