DA to renovate Davao market

DAVAO CITY—The Department of Agriculture is proposing to renovate the Bankerohan Public Market of this city to make it a modernized trading center.

DA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said the modernized public market can improve the bottomlines of businessmen.

Piñol said he plans to convert the city’s biggest public market to a farmer’s exchange center.

He said they will turn the public market into a mall-like supermarket that is clean and attractive to buyers.

Piñol said it will be equipped with modern facilities such as food storage for vegetables and meat products.

“The renovating will be based on the international standards,” he said, adding that the renovation would also house wholesale and retail sections for local products.

Piñol said he has proposed the project to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and recommended it to President Rodrigo Duterte.

Sara, on her part welcomed the proposal of the secretary, saying that it will generate more income, employment, business opportunities and improved the income of many Dabawenyos.

Piñol said modernization of the Bankerohan Public Market is expected to begin by 2018, and it will also be included in their proposed budget.
