The Philippine National Police has created a task force to probe the assassination try on Calabarzon Regional Director Renato Brion of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
DILG Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento said Special Investigation Task Force Brion will spearhead the conduct of investigation on the shooting of Brion last Monday in front of the DILG regional office in Calamba City.
The group will be headed by P/Senior Superintendent Romulo E. Sapitula, Deputy Regional Director for Operations of the Calabarzon Police Regional Office.
Sarmiento said any information leading to the arrest of the suspects in the Brion case may be relayed to P/Sr. Supt. Sapitula at mobile number 09178083333.
A bounty of P2 million has been offered by President Benigno S. Aquino III for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the ambush.
Initial investigation showed that Brion alighted from his service vehicle in front of the Andenson Building in Barangay Parian, Calamba City when two assailants approached him from behind and shot him several times then fled from the incident.
The PNP is now conducting dragnet and manhunt operations for the possible identification and arrest of the suspects.
Brion underwent operation in a hospital Monday night and is now under observation.
