Cagayan V Job Caravan kicks off; BPO hub mulled

TUGUEGARAO, Cagayan—Government agencies are joining a business process outsource company in its Job Caravan at the Mall of the Valley   from February 18-20, according to the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority .

The job Caravan will bring about jobs in the Cagayan Valley as well as test how prepared the labor pool is and gauge how well the region is doing with the development of the BPO industry, said Joyce Jayme-Calimag, CEZA Public Relations Chief.

“Our goal is to be the premiere BPO hub of Cagayan Valley,” Calimag said.

She said the Job Caravan is in collaboration with Sitel, a global BPO which is a tested player in the industry.  In cooperation with the Commission on Higher Education and the City Government, it is trying to develop a BPO-IT in the province.

She said that  they have held a number of trainings and job fairs to make sure that they are able to meet the demand for  quality manpower.

Citing the facilities in Santa Ana town, Calimag said that CEZA is home to a 10-hectare Cyberpark with established Data Center, microwave facility and a redundant fiber optic whose backbone is lobe Telecoms, Inc. through an international fiber optic network and PLDT through a domestic fiber optic network.

“We take pride in having a state-of-the-art fiber optic network which is considered the best in Asia in terms of latency and capacity. Considering that we already have these highly-rated facilities, we are now working on the feasibility of BPO operations in the area,” Calimag said.

CEZA Chief Executive Officer and Administrator Jose Mari Ponce said the Job Caravan  can be an opportunity for applicants to find  new jobs in the BPO industry by starting their career with Sitel and receive awesome benefits.

“Our investment priority areas include the BPO industry, Gaming Activities, Tourism and Resort Facilities and Services, Marine Products Processing, Real Estate Development, Port Operations, Power Generation and Distribution, Agro-industry and Water Supply and Treatment Facility,” Ponce said.

He said CEZA already have the necessary BPO infrastructure and support facilities and that companies of related industries have also conveyed their interest to invest in the Cagayan Freeport.

With Sitel, CEZA is launching the start of the BPO industry in this Job Caravan with the objective of making the Cagayan Valley region as the prime BPO hub of Northern Philippines.
