Transmission operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) on Thursday announced Tower #65 of the Agus 2-Kibawe 138kV line in Maguing, Lanao del Sur was bombed.

NGCP said repair of tower 65, which was bombed on December 2, will commence as soon as the area is secured.

This transmission line segment has been unenergized since September due to sabotage of its insulators by still unknown individuals, the company said.

The said bombings only serve to increase the burden of the public, which must suffer through service interruptions when towers are bombed.

“NGCP continues its appeal to the local and national government, local community leaders, and the public, to help identify the perpetrators of the bombings, and to negotiate with uncooperative landowners, to prevent longer power interruptions,” NGCP said.

In the past years, NGCP towers in Mindanao are often bombed by suspected terrorists and other unscrupulous individuals.

NGCP had earlier sought the help of the Department of Energy (DOE) to help protect crucial energy infrastructures.
