The City of Taguig on Thursday launched its COVID-19 vaccine rollout for city-based Overseas Filipino Workers.

Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano led the event held at the second floor of High Street Mega Vaccination Hub in Global City, Barangay Fort Bonifacio.

Based on the resolution issued by Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), OFWs scheduled for deployment within the next four months from the intended date of vaccination now fall under the A1 priority group.

If the schedule for deployment is not within the given timeframe, OFWs will still be inoculated under the said group.

“OFWs are modern-day heroes whose sacrifice of being away from their families, among other things, cannot be overemphasized. Furthermore, in the process, our OFWs contribute much to the country’s economy,” said Mayor Cayetano.

He added “it is only fitting then that OFWs be among those prioritized in the country’s COVID-19 vaccination program.”

Last Wednesday, Taguig received its 6,000 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines from the national government. On the first day of its rollout, priority was given to OFWs and senior citizens.

At present, the local government vaccinates 8,000 to 10,000 individuals per day.

Cayetano said the additional Moderna vaccine will help the city’s Vaccination Rollout Program.

As of July 13, a total of 417,582 residents and workers across the A1-A5 categories have already been vaccinated against the deadly coronavirus disease.
