In the spirit of goodwill and the Bayanihan drive, the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (CGHMC) rolled out its very own “Employees’ Pantry” earlier this month.

A joint project with the CGH Employees Association-UFSW, the pantry is open on Fridays of May, giving out free food items to anyone in need within the CGHMC family. This includes all hospital employees, maintenance personnel, janitorial and security services and other contract workers.

Food items such as rice, vegetables, eggs, and other staples are given away.

HOSPITAL PANTRY. Food items such as rice, vegetables, eggs, and other staples are given away at the Chinese General Hospital’s Employees’ Pantry, a joint project with the CGH Employees Association-UFSW. It is open on Fridays of May, giving out free food items to anyone in need within the CGHMC family.

“This is for all the hospital workers who need some assistance in their daily needs, particularly in these trying times,” said Dr. James G. Dy, President of CGHMC. “We distribute what we can to everyone as our means of support and camaraderie. That was the goal from the start.”

To achieve this goal, the hospital employees’ association, in coordination with Magsasaka Outlet, purchased produce at reasonable prices from farmers in Banaue, Ifugao through the “BuyAnihan” project.

The CGHMC Human Resource Department helped setup the pantry, located at the hospital’s service delivery entrance.

“This humble project reinforces our commitment to take care of our workforce as they continue to take care of our patients,” added Dr. Dy. “This is an example that we are just one big family here at CGH, looking out for one another. I’m very proud of it.”

The hospital hopes that with the continued support of the CGHMC community and its other donors, the employees’ pantry can be sustained and kept standing for those in need.

Since day one, CGHMC, owned and operated by the Philippine Chinese Charitable Association Inc., (PCCAI), along with the Filipino Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Inc., (FCGCCI) has been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19.

It has extended its reach through numerous projects benefiting all hospital workers by providing regular COVID testing, quarantine facilities, and free hospitalization, among others.
