BI seizes smuggled cigarettes in Zambo

The Bureau of Customs seized more than P8.2 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in Zamboanga City.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service Zamboanga Operatives, in coordination with the Naval Intelligence and Security Group-Western Mindanao and Naval Special Operating Unit, intercepted the assorted smuggled cigarettes onboard a boat, the MJ NR 4 in Brgy. Lower Calarian, Zamboanga City.

The operation was made following an information received that a motor boat loaded with alleged smuggled cigarettes from Jolo, Sulu was seen anchored within the vicinity of Stanvac Lower Calarian, Zamboanga City.

Upon inspection of the vessel, the operatives discovered more than 300 master cases of smuggled Bravo, Fort, Tradition, LS and Astro cigarettes with estimated value of P8,275,000.00.

The shipment did not have a permit from the National Tobacco Administration, which is a violation of Executive Order No. 245 (Amended Rules and Regulations Governing the Exportation and Importation of  Tobacco and Tobacco Products.

District Collector Segundo Sigmundfreud Barte Jr. assured the public that BOC Zamboanga will continue to intensify its campaign against smuggled cigarettes alongside the continuing efforts against COVID-19 in the city.
