Gregorio replaces Bachmann as PSC chair

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has officially accepted the resignation of Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Richard “Dickie” Bachmann and appointed veteran sports executive Patrick “Pato” Gregorio as his replacement, Malacañang said Saturday.

In a message to Palace reporters, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed the changes at the helm of the PSC as part of President Marcos’ call for courtesy resignations from members of his Cabinet and appointees as part of a “revamp” of his administration.

“Yes, that’s right,” Bersamin said, confirming Gregorio’s appointment.

Though the PSC is not a Cabinet-level agency, its chairman is a presidential appointee.

Gregorio previously served as chairman of the Philippine Basketball Association during its 40th season and spearheaded the creation of the sports marketing division at Smart Communications, Inc.

He also currently leads the Philippine Rowing Association, under which the country fielded its first-ever female Olympian rower.

The leadership change comes just six months before the Philippines is set to compete in the Southeast Asian Games, to be held across three cities in Thailand.
