Suspension order served to Aplasca, subpoena for Senate CCTV too

Personnel from the Office of the Ombudsman went to the Senate on Monday to serve a preventive suspension order against Acting Senate Sergeant-at-Arms retired PMGen. Mao Aplasca and a subpoena seeking closed-circuit television footage of the May 13 shooting incident.

Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said the documents were received by the Senate Secretariat.

“Ombudsman personnel were in Senate to attempt to serve the Order of Preventive Suspension of Acting SAA Aplasca as well as the subpoena for the CCTV footage,” Clavano said.

“We got the confirmation that both were received by the Senate Secretariat,” he added.

The development followed earlier remarks by Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, who said process servers encountered difficulty serving the subpoena at the Senate despite prior notice to Senate personnel.

Remulla earlier said the subpoenas covered CCTV footage of the May 13 incident and documents related to Aplasca, who was placed under preventive suspension for six months without pay pending an Ombudsman investigation.

The Ombudsman said the suspension was imposed to prevent possible conflicts in the investigation.
