President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday congratulated Moroccan King Mohammed VI as the Philippines and Morocco marked their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
In a letter to the monarch, the President described the golden anniversary as a moment to reflect on past accomplishments and strengthen future cooperation between the two nations.
“This milestone offers an opportunity for us to look back on five decades of friendship and chart a path toward deeper collaboration,” Mr. Marcos said.
King Mohammed VI, in a separate message to the President, highlighted the enduring ties between the two countries, calling the relationship “a model of bilateral ties rooted in mutual esteem and fruitful cooperation.”
The Philippines and Morocco formally established diplomatic relations on April 10, 1975. Since then, the partnership has steadily grown across various sectors, including labor, trade, and cultural exchanges.
Morocco opened its embassy in Manila in January 2017. The Philippines, in turn, reopened its embassy in Rabat on Dec. 27, 2019, signaling renewed efforts to deepen bilateral engagement.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, around 4,600 Filipinos currently reside and work in Morocco.
