The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Western Visayas is intensifying traffic law enforcement to address the region’s high road crash fatality rate, which contributes to the 12,000 deaths annually nationwide.
To enhance road safety, LTO-6 has acquired 10 calibrated breath analyzers and a speed gun for detecting reckless driving and enforcing speed limits. These tools will enable enforcers to accurately identify drivers under the influence of alcohol and monitor vehicle speeds on national highways.
The use of breath analyzers and speed guns aligns with national directives to strengthen road safety campaigns. Under the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, drivers suspected of intoxication undergo Field Sobriety Tests, followed by breathalyzer tests if necessary. Drivers exceeding the legal Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) face penalties, including fines, arrest, and license revocation for repeat offenses.
LTO-6 emphasizes the importance of responsible driving, especially during major events, as drunk driving is a preventable cause of road crashes. The agency stresses that compliance with traffic regulations is non-negotiable.
With stricter enforcement and improved equipment, LTO-6 aims to set a higher standard for road safety in the region.
