LTO issues show-cause versus car dealers

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a show-cause order against 1,046 dealers in 2024 for non-registration of brand-new motor vehicles within the prescribed time period.

“Unfortunately, there were some motor vehicle dealers which did not comply at the expense of their clients despite our repeated reminders of the need to strictly follow the rule,” LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said.

He cited the agency’s Citizen’s Charter mandating the registration of newly bought motor vehicles to be registered within seven days after the transaction is completed in motor vehicle dealerships.

“What is worse with the other car dealers is that they point the blame on us, telling their clients it is our fault. That is not right. That’s why we encourage our clients to file a complaint before us,” he said.

The intensified monitoring of the compliance of motor vehicle dealers is part of the instruction of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista to make all the transactions under the Department fast and comfortable.

According to the LTO chief, out of the 1,046 show-cause orders, 21 of them were already fined after being found negligent during the investigation.

At least 14 of the motor vehicle dealers were fined with P20,000, two were fined with P30,000 and five were fined with P100,000.

Eighty have already been submitted for resolution, while the rest are still under investigation.

He directed to speed up the resolution of all cases involving violations of the registration of new motor vehicles.
