Philippines to host International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security

The Philippines will host the inaugural International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security (ICWPS) from October 28 to 30.

Key themes will include financing strategies for WPS initiatives and the critical role of women in peacebuilding and addressing climate security challenges.

Officials emphasized the conference’s potential to showcase the Philippines’ leadership in promoting women’s rights and gender equality in peace processes, particularly in conflict-affected regions.

The Philippine government will lead the conference through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU), and the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).

“Let us remember that the comprehensive Philippine peace process aligns with the aspiration of the UN Council resolution on Women, Peace and Security, particularly [UN] Resolution 1325 and 1820, which paved the way in crafting the WPS,” Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr said.

Other core group members involved in planning the three-day conference include the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy (PCID), UN Women, and the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR).
