President Marcos has named peace adviser Carlito Galvez as the country’s official representative to the upcoming Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland, Malacañang said on Tuesday.

In a message to reporters, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) confirmed the President’s order sending Galvez to attend on his behalf in the Swiss-hosted global meeting scheduled on June 15 to 16.

“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has designated Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Carlito G. Galvez Jr. as the representative of the Philippines to the Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland,” the PCO said.

Malacañang gave no reason yet when asked why the President would not be able to personally attend the summit.

Last week, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally flew to Manila to invite President Marcos to attend the peace summit, which the chief executive accepted.

According to Switzerland, about 90 states and organizations are expected to participate in the summit to discuss the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

Russia did not receive an invitation to the summit, and China stated it would not attend if Moscow was not included.
