The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) yesterday reported that the total amount of damage to agriculture and infrastructure caused by Typhoon Aghon has exceeded 1 billion pesos.
In its latest bulletin, the NDRRMC said that damage to infrastructure has reached 942.5 million pesos in Region IV-A (Calabarzon) while agriculture damage was placed at Php. 85.6 million in Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions.
Some 7,568 houses were damaged in Calabarzon and Eastern Visayas, 6,907 of which were classified as “partially damaged” and 752 as “totally damaged”.
A total of 41,405 families or 152,266 persons in 887 barangays in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas and the National Capital Region were affected by the typhoon, the report said.
The confirmed death toll from the weather disturbance stands at six— five from Calabarzon and one from Northern Mindanao—while 8 were injured.
It said 19 cities and municipalities were placed under state of calamity in Aghon’s wake.
This could be the first and last time the name Aghon will be used because the state weather bureau PAGASA decommissions storm names if they inflict damage of at least P1 billion to agriculture and infrastructure.
Aghon replaced the storm name Ambo, which was retired after inflicting more than P1.5 billion damage in May 2020.
