Customs authorities intercepted an illegal shipment of 36 scorpion heads and isopods at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The parcel was without the required permits from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), authorities said.

The parcel, declared as a traditional designed shoulder bag, was shipped from Quezon City to a recipient in Mexico.

“Upon closer inspection, authorities discovered that the package concealed 23 large scorpion heads, 13 small scorpion heads, and a container of isopods,” according to NAIA District Collector Yasmin Mapa.

She said the confiscated shipment was turned over to the DENR for proper handling and safekeeping.

The seized shipment constitutes a serious violation of Philippine laws, including Section 1113 in relation to Sections 117 and 1401 of RA 10863, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, as well as Section 27 of RA 9147, the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act. Vito Barcelo
