Revilla to DPWH, MMDA: Get ready for La Niña season

Senate committee on public works chairperson Ramon Revilla, Jr. anticipates an equally challenging La Niña season soon, prompting him to issue a reminder to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to prepare for it.

In a news release, Revilla said he is “wary of the impending La Niña phenomenon that will bring heavier rains than usual.” He noted that now is the best time to ensure that all waterways are clean and drainages are not clogged.

“This is why we are reminding them (DPWH and MMDA personnel) to prepare adequately or better, prepare more than the expected impact,” the lawmaker said.

Last March, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the El Niño across the Tropical Pacific Ocean has shown signs of weakening and is expected to persist until the month of May.

On the other hand, the weather agency stated that there is a 55 percent chance for La Niña to develop starting June 2024.

Because of this, Revilla reminded concerned government agencies to take advantage of the dry season to undertake measures that would minimize the impact of La Niña.
