Marcos, emir of Qatar to discuss cooperation

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the emir of the State of Qatar are set to meet to discuss various areas of cooperation, Malacañang said.

The Qatari leader is in the country for a two-day state visit from April 21 to April 22.

In a statement from the Presidential Communications Office, Sheikh Tamim’s visit to the country is upon the invitation of the President.

“The two leaders are expected to exchange views on regional issues and to discuss PH-Qatar bilateral relations which now cover cooperation in the areas of labor, climate change, trade and investments, energy security, education, youth, and sports, among others,” Malacañang said.

The Qatari emir last visited the Philippines in 2012.

Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Lillibeth Pono mentioned that the Qatari leader’s visit to the country indicated the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.

“It also provides an excellent opportunity for the two sides to have a personal exchange of views on bilateral issues and foster greater engagement arising from a shared sense of responsibility as regional and global actors,” she said in a statement.
