Ex-ISAFP chief Corpuz dies, 76

Former Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) chief Brig. Gen. Victor Corpus has passed away at 79, his family confirmed Thursday in a Facebook post.

Corpus was known for his defection to the New People’s Army but eventually returned to the Armed Forces and was appointed chief of military intelligence by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

“It is with great sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of our Uncle Victor Corpus… Rest in Peace Tito Vic. No more pain’… You are now in a better place with our Lord,” his family’s Facebook post read.

\In 1970 while still a young lieutenant, Corpus, a member of the Philippine Military Academy batch 1967, led a raid on the PMA armory.

At the time, he had just defected to the communist NPA.

But in 1976, he became disenchanted with the rebel movement, surrendered to the government, and was imprisoned for 10 years. He was given amnesty in 1987 by then President Corazon Aquino.
