The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Southern Tagalog raised its heightened alert level from March 24 to 31 to ensure the safety of sea travelers and coastal communities during Holy Week.

The Lenten season, which traditionally sees an increase in maritime activities as people travel to various destinations for religious pilgrimages and family gatherings, calls for heightened vigilance and precautionary measures.

In line with the directive of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista, the PCG, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) are collaborating to manage the operations of sea transport facilities to ensure safe and secure voyages during the lenten season and summer vacation.

PCG Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, Commander of Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog, urges all sea travelers to prioritize safety by adhering to maritime regulations, and ensuring the seaworthiness of vessels.

Additionally, the public is reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or emergencies to the nearest PCG station or authorities.
