Romualdez glad that Pinoy seafarers safe in Gulf of Aden

Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Sunday welcomed reports that Filipino seafarers in the Gulf of Aden Houthi attack are safe.

“We have received heartening news that all ten of our Filipino seafarers aboard the vessel struck in the Gulf of Aden are now safe. This update brings immense relief not only to their families but to our nation as a whole, as we have been anxiously following the
developments of this distressing incident,” he said in a statement.

“I wish to express my profound gratitude to the international community, including the Indian Navy and the authorities in Djibouti, for their prompt and decisive actions that led to the safety of our kababayans. Their dedication and cooperation have been instrumental in securing the well-being of our seafarers, and for this, we are immensely thankful,” he added.

He commended President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Department of Migrant Workers, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and the Department of Forei gn Affairs for their swift response and the comprehensive assistance they continue to provide to the seafarers and their families.

The collaboration between government agencies and the international partners showcased the strength and effectiveness of collective efforts in ensuring the safety of our citizens abroad, he said.

“To our brave seafarers, your safety is of utmost importance to us. We are deeply relieved that you are out of harm’s way and are now secure. The courage and strength you have shown in the face of danger are truly admirable, and you embody the resilient spirit of the Filipino people,” he said.

“While we celebrate the safety of our seafarers, we also remember and mourn the tragic loss of two of our compatriots in this incident.

We extend our deepest sympathies to their families and assure them of our continued support during this difficult time. We are committed to providing them with all the necessary assistance and ensuring that their loved ones’ sacrifices are honored and remembered,” he added.

He called the seafarers as modern-day heroes.

“As we move forward from this incident, let us reaffirm our commitment to the welfare and safety of all our overseas Filipino workers. We will continue to work tirelessly to protect their rights, promote their well-being, and ensure that they are provided with the support and protection they deserve, wherever they may be in the world,” he stressed.

“Again, my sincerest thanks to everyone involved in the rescue and safety operations. Your actions have brought great comfort and hope to our nation. Together, let us continue to uphold the welfare of our Filipino workers worldwide and ensure that they are always safe and protected,” he said.
