Two quakes shake Davao Oriental; Phivolcs says no damage expected

Two earthquakes rocked Banganga, Davao Oriental early Thursday morning, but no damage has so far been reported.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a 5.1 magnitude quake hit Davao Oriental at 5:39 a.m. with a depth of four kilometers and a location of 63 kilometers northeast in the municipality of Baganga.

Of tectonic origin, the tremor was caused by the sudden movement along faults and plate boundaries, Phivolcs said.

Intensity 1 was recorded in Bislig City, and Surigao del Sur, along with Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.

A tremor of magnitude 5 quake was recorded Thursday at 4:19 a.m. some 70 kilometers northeast of Baganga, Davao Oriental.

Initially, it was recorded with a magnitude of 5.3, but Phivolcs later downgraded it to magnitude 5.

It was felt at intensity 3 in Lingig, Surigao del Sur, and intensity 2 in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.

Instrumental intensity 1 was also felt in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur and Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.

Phivolcs said no damage was expected from the two tremors.
