The Department of the Interior and Local Government on Friday lauded the Quezon City government for its achievements on the first week of the 60-day period given to clear the roads and sidewalks in Metro Manila.

Local Government Undersecretary Bernardo Florece Jr. cited the clearing operations made by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte even before President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address, saying local government units should prioritize clearing government structures that are obstructing the sidewalks.

“Silently, Quezon City has been doing its work even before the SONA,” he said.

Belmonte instructed the Department of Public Order and Safety, Environmental Protection and Waste Management Department, and Market Development and Administration Department to conduct their clearing and cleaning operations within thier areas since the start of her administration.

Throughout the review, Assistant City Administrator for Operations Alberto Kimpo presented the city’s initial assessment and identified 22 areas of concern.

Over the past week, Belmonte was busy conducting dialogues with barangay officials, and market and sidewalk vendors who were directly affected by the clearing operations.
