TV stuntman nabbed for loose guns, illegal recruit

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested a TV network stuntman for illegal recruitment and possession of illegal firearms.

In a press briefing at the CIDG headquarters in Camp Crame Tuesday, Lt. Col. Domingo Soriano, head of the CIDG’s Detective and Special Operations Unit, identified the suspect as Ryan Cabañas, 38, a stuntman, who was arrested via a search warrant operation served at his residence in Pag-ibig Homes Subdivision in Cainta, Rizal on Monday.

During the operation, Soriano said the operatives seized different firearms without license—including one unit of .22-caliber rifle with scope, one sniper rifle with scope, one 9mm Beretta pistol, one unit of RONIN kit, two units of magazine for .45 caliber, four units of magazine for 9mm, two units of magazine for .22 caliber, 234 live ammunition, one firearm silencer, and one bulletproof vest with National Bureau of Investigation marking.

Soriano said Martin was also wanted for syndicated illegal recruitment based on a warrant of arrest issued by the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 146 for violation of Sec. 6 of Republic Act 8042, or the “Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995”.

He added the suspect would be facing charges for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunitions Regulation Law and RA 9516 or Illegal Possession of Explosives.

Martin is at present under the custody of the CIDG and will be turned over to the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 146.
