DPWH completes construction of revetment wall

THE Department of Public Works and Highways completed the construction of the P46.6-million revetment wall that will serve as a protective barrier to flooding of residents living close to Tullahan River in SSS Village, Barangay North Fairview, Quezon City.

The nine-meter high concrete wall was  built under Rehabilitation and Improvement of Tullahan River Phase II, according to DPWH-National Capital Region Director Melvin  Navarro.

Prior to the construction of the wall, only an old, dilapidated, 3 meters in height riprap served as a defense against force of river especially during heavy rains in the area, Navarro said.

“With the taller and sturdier concrete revetment along Tullahan River, residents near the area are assured that the inundation of flooding and soil erosion along the river banks will be avoided in case of heavy rains preventing damages of properties and loss of lives,” he said.

The construction of river wall was funded under 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA) and was implemented from February to November 2018.

The DPWH will also implement numerous flood control projects, including clearing of esteros, canals in Metro Manila in a bid to mitigate flooding in the metropolis especially during heavy rains. Vito Barcelo
