SEVENTY prominent “Quezonians” will be honored at the Manuel L. Quezon University Alumni Association Inc. Grand Reunion on Nov. 11 at the AB Pavillion, Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong City.
Fifteen special awardees will also be cited as part of the university’s 70th founding anniversary.
MLQUAAI president lawyer Pete S. Principe said former Peza director general Lilia De Lima will also be honored during the special platinum anniversary as 2017 Magsaysay Peace Laureate, the association said in a press statement.
It said MLQU had produced champions, topnotchers and many of the nation’s leaders.
The list of MLQU outstanding alumni is endless.
The list includes positions of Secretaries of Justice in Ricardo C. Puno Sr., Sedfrey Ordoñez and Artemio Tuquero while Justices Martin Villarama Jr., Venicio Escolin, Jose Melo, Jose Vitug, Ruben Reyes, Isagani A. Cruz Leonardo Quisumbing and Samuel Martires went on to become associate justices of the Supreme Court.
MLQU graduates also made notable achievements in government service: among them former Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo; former Commission on Elections chair Benjamin S. Abalos; former Labor Secretary and Senate President Blas F. Ople; labor secretaries Rosalinda Baldoz, Silvestre Bello 111 and Leonardo Quisumbing.
The list also includes Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin; Peza Director General and 2017 Maysaysay Peace Laureate Lilia de Lima; Tarlac Governor Jose V. Yap; former PCGG Chairman Magtanggol Gunigundo; former Senators Wigberto Tañada; and Wenceslao Lagumbay; Deputy Speaker Frederick Abueg, (17th Congress) and Rep.Reynaldo Umali, chairperson committee on justice.
