New Army Chief named

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Major General Rolando Bautista the new chief of the Philippine Army.

The Commander in Chief attended the change of command at the Philippine Army Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Thursday afternoon.

Bautista replaces Lieutenant General Glorioso Miranda who is retiring.

Bautista is the former commander of Duterte's Presidential Security Group (PSG).

He was also the former commander of the Philippine Army's 104th Brigade in Basilan.

During the turnover rites, the President presented to Miranda the Legion of Honor with the degree of commander.

During his speech, Duterte talked about his plans for a strong military.

He also tackled his program to raise the salary of soldiers by next year.
