The hearing on the drug cases against detained Senator Leila de Lima at the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) took less than an hour on Friday morning.

Muntinlupa RTC Branch 205 Judge Amelia Fabros-Corpuz ordered all parties to submit comments on several motions filed by the defense panel.

The next hearing is set on August 18.

The Department of Justice had charged De Lima for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The prosecution claimed that De Lima extorted drug money worth about P 3 million and four vehicles from a high-profile inmate of the New Bilibid Prison.

This supposedly happened during the senatorial race in 2016.

De Lima has been in jail at the Philippine National Police for four months now.

Her lawyer, Atty. Alex Padilla, says despite the prosecution's grave accusations, it has yet to present an iota of evidence to prove these allegations against the lawmaker.
