There seems to be a new reason for the perennial poor service of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) – 3.

Whereas in the recent past, problems in the trains' signalling system were cited as the cause of the almost-daily technical glitches, a new reason was provided following Thursday's delay in its operations – cracks in the railway.

MRT-3 Engineer Deo Manalo says, broken railroad tracks have resulted in the MRT's limited service today.

For almost an hour from 5:57 am, passengers could only ride from Shaw Boulevard Station in Mandaluyong City up to Taft Avenue in Pasay City.

The broken railroad tracks were discovered in between Kamuning and Cubao Stations in Quezon City.

Commuters who arrived very early in several MRT stations were forced to look for other means of transportation.

MRT installed fishplates or joints into the railway.

It will conduct more repairs on Thursday evening to address this relatively new problem.
