More than 1.2 million Filipinos overseas have registered to cast their votes in the forthcoming May 12, 2025 midterm elections, representing a 20-percent drop in the compared to 2022 national elections figure, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Comelec chairman George Garcia announced that a total of 1,241,690 overseas Filipinos have listed up for the upcoming polls. Among these registrants, women accounted for the majority with 805,358, as opposed to 436,332 male voters.
The number of registered OFWs voters also declined to 455,525 from 1,697,215 in 2022.
While overseas voters decreased, local registration saw an increase with 68,618,667 total voters this year. Of this figure, 33,690,884 were males and 34,927,783 were females.
Region IV-A (Calabarzon) recorded the highest number of registrants with 9,764,170, followed by Region III (Central Luzon) with 7,712,535, National Capital Region with 7,562,858, and Region I (Ilocos Region) with 3,651,539.
At the national levels– presidential, vice presidential, senatorial, and party list – it is a race to win over the votes of 1.2 million Filipinos and dual citizens abroad.
Registered Filipino voters overseas will be voting personally or via post at their respective Philippine embassies and consulates during the month-long voting period from April 13 to May 12, 7 p.m. (Philippine Standard Time).
