THE Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) on Wednesday called for active citizen participation in governance, saying responsible citizenship is essential to building a progressive nation.
OPAPRU chief Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento said Article 13 of the 1987 Constitution encourages citizen involvement in governance, adding that growth becomes more inclusive and meaningful when people participate.
“This is what Bagong Pilipinas is all about,” he said.
Sarmiento also emphasized that sustaining peace is a shared responsibility, saying every Filipino has a role in building “positive peace,” which includes accountable government, rule of law, low corruption, strong institutions, social cohesion, equitable distribution of resources, respect for rights, and access to education and economic opportunities.
