The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday assured heightened security nationwide as Muslim Filipinos prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr on March 21, according to PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
Police units will be deployed in key areas to secure mosques, prayer venues, and Muslim communities.
“Our security plan is in place to give our Muslim brothers peace of mind on this important and sacred occasion. Our personnel on the ground are always ready to assist,” Nartatez said.
“Our priority is the safety of all Filipino citizens. We will deploy police units in key areas, coordinate with local leaders, and ensure peace during Eid prayers,” he added.
Eid’l Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting and reflection. Moon sighting reports confirmed the celebration will fall on March 21.
Authorities expect large congregational prayers in mosques and open grounds, prompting the PNP to implement traffic and crowd management measures.
“We have traffic and crowd management plans in place, especially near major mosques. Hinihikayat namin ang everyone na sumunod sa traffic rules para maiwasan ang abala. Quick response teams and medical units will be on standby. Agad kaming tutugon sa anumang insidente para sa kaligtasan ng publiko,” Nartatez said.
He added the PNP will coordinate closely with local government units and Muslim leaders to ensure a peaceful observance.
“Nakikiisa ang buong PNP sa inyong pasasalamat at pagtatapos ng Ramadan. Patuloy po tayong magtulungan para sa kapayapaan (The entire PNP joins you in gratitude and in marking the end of Ramadan. Let us continue working together for peace). We wish you a solemn and joyous celebration. Eid Mubarak!” he said.
