Cagayan gov upbeat over fresh infra funds

Cagayan Gov. Edgar Aglipay has thanked the national government for approving billions of pesos in development initiatives covering agriculture, infrastructure, and education.

The projects included 10 rice processing centers, two corn processing complexes, six dam and irrigation systems, 48 farm-to-market roads, and 216 classrooms, according to the Cagayan Provincial Information Office.

Three of the rice processing centers will be constructed in Cagayan, with confirmation from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

By bringing processing capabilities closer to farms, these projects will cut transport costs to neighboring Isabela, thus enabling the farmers to earn more through better prices for their produce. The two corn processing hubs are seen to further expand opportunities by opening new markets for local corn growers.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently inaugurated the P487.46 million Union Water Impounding Dam, which will enhance both irrigation coverage and flood control across the province. He also inspected the ongoing construction of the P2.09 billion Camalaniugan-Aparri Bridge, set to strengthen trade links between northern Cagayan municipalities and surrounding areas.

The Farm-to-Market Road projects will reduce post-harvest losses and improve access to buyers, while the dam and irrigation systems will optimize water management and boost crop yields. The 216 new classrooms will upgrade learning environments for students throughout Cagayan.
