Palace expands global network for BARMM peace

The Marcos administration is strengthening global partnerships to support the Bangsamoro peace process, as the Office of the Special Assistant to the President (OSAP), through the Inter-Cabinet Cluster Mechanism on Normalization (ICCMN), engaged the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

The meeting focused on updates and coordination efforts in implementing the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) and advancing the peace process in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The engagement forms part of the government’s efforts to enhance coordination with international partners and identify possible areas of support from the United Nations system and its member states in advancing key commitments under the Bangsamoro peace process.

Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr. said the delegation’s visit aimed to strengthen collaboration with the United Nations and its member states to accelerate programs under the CAB, the landmark agreement guiding the normalization process between the government and former Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) combatants.

A key activity during the visit was a courtesy call and briefing with the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations, where OSAP officials provided updates on the status of the Bangsamoro peace process and outlined priority deliverables under the normalization track.

Discussions also explored possible UN support for peacebuilding initiatives in Mindanao, including technical assistance, strategic partnerships, and resource mobilization aligned with the Philippines’ peace and development priorities.

Lagdameo said the engagement also aimed to harmonize policy messaging and reinforce international support for the Bangsamoro peace process, particularly in advancing normalization measures such as socio-economic support, security transitions, and community development in former conflict-affected areas.

The meeting was organized by OSAP through the ICCMN, the government platform that coordinates inter-agency efforts to implement normalization commitments under the CAB.

Palace officials emphasized that sustained international cooperation remains vital to preserving gains in the peace process and supporting BARMM communities as they transition toward long-term stability and inclusive development.

OSAP said it will continue engaging international partners to strengthen capacity-building, resource mobilization, and technical assistance for peace and development efforts in Mindanao.
