100 homes lost in pre-dawn Tondo fire, leaves 600 homeless

SOME 100 homes went up in smoke during a blaze that swept through a blighted community in Parola, Tondo, Manila on Friday, March 6. Damage to property was estimated at P400,000.

Arson probers said the fire which left about 200 families homeless broke out shortly after midnight and was tapped out by daybreak.

Barangay chairman Anthony Igus said about 100 houses were gutted down, leading about 600 of his constituents homeless.

Fire Senior Inspector Ronald Lim said the firefighters had difficulty fighting the blaze due to congestion of the structures in the neighborhood.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reminded the public that the country is currently observing the Fire Prevention Month.

“Let us all be careful with the onset of summer. Regularly check on the power connections and the cooking instruments in the kitchen, specifically our LPG (liquefied petroleum gas),” the BFP said.
