House justice panel sends notice on impeachment hearings vs. VP Sara

The House Committee on Justice formally sent out notices to members of the lower chamber for the initial consideration of the four verified impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte, according to ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio.

In a “Notice of Meeting” dated February 24, committee chairperson and Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville Luistro informed members of the House of Representatives that the panel “will hold a meeting” on March 2, 3, and 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the House of Representatives People’s Center.

Under the stated agenda is the “initial consideration of the verified complaints for impeachment against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte.”

The first complaint, filed on February 2, was lodged by members of the Makabayan Coalition and endorsed by Tinio, Gabriela Rep. Sarah Elago, and Kabataan Rep. Renee Co.

On the same day, Mamamayang Liberal Rep. Leila de Lima and Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendaña endorsed the second impeachment complaint filed by representatives of progressive organizations and civil society groups.

Last February 9, De Lima endorsed the third complaint filed by a group of private citizens, including members of the clergy, civil society leaders, and legal practitioners.

The fourth verified complaint, filed by lawyer Nathaniel Cabrera and endorsed by House Committee on Human Rights Bienvenido Abante Jr. of Manila and Deputy Speaker Francisco Paolo Ortega V, was formally received by House Secretary General and lawyer Cheloy Garafil.
