‘No effigy burning,’ NCRPO reminds EDSA@40 rallyists

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said Wednesday they will not allow any demonstrators to burn effigies during the Trillion Peso March rally in EDSA White Plains, Quezon City.

In a chance interview, Aberin said they will strictly implement the no burning of effigies policy as various groups participate in the 40th commemoration of the EDSA revolution at the People Power Monument.

“Definitely, we will not allow them to burn effigies as they will violate local ordinances as well as our laws,” the NCRPO chief told reporters.

Aberin assured that there will be no repeat of the mess that happened during the September 21 rally in Manila. During his inspection at the People Power Monument, he said they mapped out security plans and contingencies for the event.

The NCRPO also has sufficient forces to guard and maintain security and safety for the participants in the activity. Authorities are exercising maximum tolerance during the EDSA 40 activities for all mass gatherings with or without permits.

Aberin likewise said he ordered the full deployment of personnel to manage peace and order and maintain public safety during the activities at the EDSA Shrine and the People Power Monument.
