Embassy says detained Mongolian has no links to Chinese gov’t

The Chinese Embassy on Sunday clarified that a Mongolian national detained in Zambales has no links to the Chinese government.

In a statement, the embassy’s deputy spokesperson said the arrested individual is not affiliated with China.

“To the best of our knowledge, this individual has no affiliation with China,” the statement read.

The embassy also warned against drawing conclusions before the facts are fully established.

“Prejudging the matter before the facts are fully ascertained is fundamentally flawed and runs counter to basic principles of objectivity,” it added.

Reports earlier indicated that the Mongolian citizen was allegedly a jet fighter pilot trained at China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force Aviation University and may have served in the PLA.

National Security Adviser Eduardo Año previously disclosed details about the suspect’s alleged military background.

The foreign national is currently under the custody of the Bureau of Immigration while the investigation continues. He has denied the allegations against him.
