Palace lauds Sandro for inhibiting self from PBBM impeachment cases

Malacañang on Tuesday praised House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos for voluntarily inhibiting himself from all impeachment proceedings involving his father, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., calling the move a demonstration of integrity and statesmanship.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said the younger Marcos’ decision to recuse himself from deliberations on the impeachment complaints was appropriate and reflected respect for democratic processes.

“The act of Congressman Sandro Marcos inhibiting himself voluntarily from this issue, especially regarding the impeachment complaint filed against his own father, is a hallmark of a statesman,” Castro said during a Palace briefing.

“It shows his character; it shows his decency. And we believe that it is the right thing to do,” she added.

Asked whether the President advised his son to inhibit himself, Castro said the Chief Executive did not interfere with his son’s actions as a lawmaker.

“Hindi po nakikialam ang Pangulo sa mga anumang aksiyon na gagawin ng kaniyang anak,” Castro said. “Ang alam po niya kailangan lamang pong tumupad ang kaniyang anak sa mandato.”

Castro added that as a public servant, Sandro is fully aware of the law and his responsibilities and is capable of determining the proper course of action independently.

Two impeachment complaints have been filed against President Marcos and have been referred to the House of Representatives for appropriate action.

Sandro Marcos, who serves as House majority leader, earlier announced his decision to inhibit himself from all proceedings related to the complaints to avoid any conflict of interest.
