Angara admits DepEd’s computer system crashed

Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara admitted that the agency’s computer system at its central office “crashed” during this year’s Computer-Based National Career Assessment Examination (CB-NCAE).

In a text message, he said the large number of students taking the computer-based test was the reason for its malfunction.

“The system crashed because of the volume or number of takers, so they had to reset for some venues,”

Angara told Manila Standard in mixed Filipino and English.

Several teachers previously experienced difficulties in navigating the computer system used by CB-NCAE, which caters to about 2 million Grade 10 students.

Some public schools have experienced technical difficulties due to incompatibility with system requirements, outdated hardware, or poor internet connectivity.

“Going forward, we may need to coordinate schedules with the private schools,” Angara said, adding that public high schools are currently following a “regimented” schedule.

The DepEd earlier assured that its response team is working with the division and regional coordinators to promptly address any concerns on its implementation.
